Dr. Niznick completed his medical training at the University of Manitoba 1978. He did his internal medicine training at the University of Toronto and completed his cardiology training at the Ottawa Heart Institute in 1986. Dr. Niznick did additional training in coronary care unit research, coronary angiography and echocardiography.
Dr. Niznick has been in practice since early July of 1986 attending at the Riverside Hospital and served as Director of the ICU for the hospital's last eight years.
Dr. Niznick now has active hospital privileges at the Ottawa Hospital General & Riverside Sites and is Managing Partner of the Ottawa Cardiovascular Centre and has Associate Staff privileges at the Ottawa Heart Institute for cardiac catheterization.
Dr. Niznick’s main areas of clinical interest include cardiovascular risk reduction and clinical evidence dissemination and implementation. He has designed and developed the Continuing Medical Implementation website www.cvtoolbox.com which is a premier knowledge translation site for cardiovascular disease management. He has developed and deployed the Lipid Optimization Tool Database which is used to audit cholesterol control and practice performance at OCC.
Dr. Niznick has participated in Canadian Cardiovascular Society (CCS) Consensus Conference Panels on Heart Failure (Primary Panel), Cardiovascular Disease in the Elderly (Primary Panel) where he authored the chapter on Secondary Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease in the Elderly, and the Consensus Conference-Fitness for Flying and Driving (Secondary Panel). Dr. Niznick has been a member of the CCS Continuing Professional Development Committee and the CCS Website Committee and has been a member of the CMA Council on Medical Education and Workforce.
Interests outside of Medicine include golf, skiing, and wine appreciation.
